In Fuller’s words

“From Mr Dewey's Old world and New, "It Peter's is a structure of stupendous magnificence - not solemnity nor sublimity exactly for one is not aware of the size." [...] There is little in these vols worth copying. They show a lively intellect but, compared with many who have recorded their old observations on the same subjects a low state of culture. They are well enough as expressions of Mr Dewey's character and sentiments as an individual. I like and understand him better for having read them.”

“Read aloud two sermons of Mr Dewey's on love to God and compassion for the Sinful. The latter I liked particularly - I think he has allowed just 'verge enough' for virtuous indignation.”
